I had the same problem myself today on a file that worked fine previously.
I had not changed whatever settings at all or played around with any addins. The just active addins I had were FileNet, Lotus Quickr and Solver.
I copied the file to an network bulldoze and it worked fine for another user on the network but still no good for me.
The uncomplicated solution I found was for me was to close the file, shut excel and everything else open up on my PC, which in my case was only Lotus Notes, then shut down completely so common cold boot. Afterwards that everything was back to normal. Before I was able to close the file I did get a Microsoft Excel mistake bulletin stating " An unexpected mistake has occurred. AutoRecover has been disabled for this session of excel."
thanks
